What are Portfolios in P6? Are they the same in P6 Web and P6 Client?

Portfolios are a means of grouping similar projects together. They are not exactly the same in the Web and Client versions. Portfolios created in the Web version are not available in the Client, and vice versa. Read more →

Primavera P6 for the Web: Scenarios

In P6 for the Web, what is the Scenario and what would we use it for?

Dates and Durations in Oracle Primavera P6

From a Pick Beth’s Brain reader: I have a schedule file that I’d like to remove the actual dates from the activities and change the original durations to equal the actual durations. I’d like your opinion on which approach (global change or Export/Import) would be the best. I think I’ve figured out how to change the original duration to equal the actual duration with the global change. I can’t figure out which parameter to use to delete the actual dates.

This is a difficult one to answer. Either way, you have to be sure to follow Primavera Business Rules. The main problem with trying to reset your actual dates is that if there are actuals (labor units, non-labor units, etc.), then the dates cannot be deleted. Read more →

Converting from Work Hours to Work Days, Weeks, etc., in P6

In P6, do you get confused when the Admin, Preferences are set to have 1 day equal 8 hours, but you’re working with 10-hour days instead; so, when you set your user preferences to show days, it’s showing 1.25 days instead of 1? Well, Primavera P6 Rel 7 has a fix for that! You can now choose to convert from hours to days, weeks, etc., based on the calendar assigned to the activity instead of the Admin, Preferences. Primavera Contract Management Action Items

In Primavera Contract Management, I have several “Action Items” that are closed, but they still appear in my action list.  How do I make these disappear?

I have been asked this question by several clients, and what I recommend is that you set up a “fake” contact within your own company–perhaps called “Closed Documents.” To do this, go to the Company Directory, open your company, and add a Contact with the name of Closed Documents. Read more →

Primavera P3 and SureTrak Officially Discontinued – Now What?

Contributor Laura (Goetsch) Nee, CEO of The Simplex Group, Inc., offers insight on migrating to Primavera P6.

My first statement to those customers is: Oracle’s Primavera P6 Enterprise Project Portfolio Management (EPPM) solution. But many clients believe the projects they run are too small to warrant the use of the Primavera EPPM solution–especially customers in the construction industry. That “E” really throws people off, and has always done so for construction companies. Read more →
